Accredited Membership

The Garden Design Society has concluded its 2009 Accreditation Submission Process
Applications will reopen in 2010 and notification will be sent to all members.

Accredited Members are recognised by the Society as professional garden designers or as teachers or researchers in the field of garden design.

Once you become an Accredited Member of the Society you will receive the

following benefits:

* Being able to have Prof. Accred. GDSNZ printed on your business card

and any professional communications eg emails, letters, quotes, websites

* Being able to tell people - clients, colleagues etc that you are an

Accredited Member of GDSNZ

* Being able to direct potential clients to the GDSNZ website which

allows them to 'double check' your credentials

* Your very own profile including a biography and up to 10 photographs

of your work on the GDSNZ website which will advertise and promote you

and provide you with exposure, saves you from having to set-up and pay

for your own website and has a 'click-through' function to send you

emails directly or direct visitors to your website if you have one

* Continuing professional development

* The exclusive opportunity to participate in Accredited Member only

workshops or masterclasses with world reknown designers; for example a $250 subsidy on Rosemary Alexander's Masterclass in conjunction with the  New Zealand Landscape Conference in September 2009

* A fabulous portfolio of your work which you can use as a promotional

and selling tool

To qualify for accreditation as a practicing garden designer you must

have either:

a) completed a minimum of three years experience working in

your field and have passed a recognised course of study (eg 2 year

Diploma) or;

b) completed nine years work experience.

You will also need to submit a portfolio of work and complete an interview with the Accreditation Board – all of which will be explained at the information evening and which we will help you through with a series of workshops/mentoring evenings. We do realise that most of you do not work on your own to complete a job from the design process to the final installation/construction phase but as long as you have designed at least 3 jobs yourself you will be in a position to apply.

The Accreditation Board (Damian Wendelborn, Penny Cliffin and Paul

Cullen) will be holding Accreditation interviews in February 2010 and

because we know you are all very busy people professionally we have

allowed candidates a full three months (plus the silly season!) to prepare and submit portfolios.

The 2009 timetable was.

Step 1         Information meeting & Application Packs ready - 26 August 2009

Step 2         Applications close - 16 September 2009

Step 3         First Mentoring workshop - 23 September 2009
